The BDP-S550 is a brand new Blu-Ray dvd player which doesn't go on general sale in the UK until much later in 2008.

Unfortunately this means there are no BDP-S550 reviews available from customers at the moment. As soon as we have our 1st BDP-S550 customer written review then we will be putting it up on this page!

However, Sony have made BDP-S550 Blu-Ray players before so we have posted a review further down despite it not being for the BDP-S550.

"This is my first blu-ray dvd player having considered but never got around to buying the BDP-S300. So far so good. The set-up was very straightforward and I did appreciate the simple set up walk through the minute I turned it on. I do have to mute my television to stop the BDP-S550 Blu-Ray sending its sound through the speakers though which seems a bit strange.

So after my BDP-S550 was set up (less than a minute with an HDMI connection and a digital audio out) I inserted my first dvd. The load up time was unbelievably quick. I found it just as fast as the my old player which was a nice surprise after everything you read about these things taking so long. No such problems with the BDP-S550.

Also, I've been reading the stories of having to update firmware as soon as you get the player out of its box. Luckily, the BDP-S550 check for firmware update is even easier than the set-up, and took less than five seconds to tell me I was uptodate.

Not having a blu-ray dvd to hand I inserted an animated feature into the BDPS550. All of my family who are normally the biggest critics of my new stuff, all noticed a significant improvement over my old player.

So set-up, ease of use and the picture and sound quality are all better with the BDPS550. Also, when using a digital co-axial I notice a much better sound than with other players I've tried. Admittedly I've yet to try the BDP-S500 or even the brand new only just released BDP-S350. Looks-wise I like it too and the remote control seems a sensible size. Not sure I've tried all the features out yet but so far it's definitely been worth what I paid for it."
