The first thing you notice about the replacement for the BDP-S500 is the fact it's so much smaller. It would be fair to say that the old model was fairly large though!

Introducing the Sony Sony S550 Blu-Ray DVD Player. The Sony BDP-S550 is one of the latest stand alone Blu-ray players from Sony. Some people prefer a PS3 for the other things it can do but other people do want a stand alone blu-ray dvd player like the ever popular BDP-S300. For those people this new BDP-S550 really is going to be worth the wait.

The BDP-S550 Blu-Ray features the BD-Live technology which allows users to update the firmware of their blu-ray players through the internet via the ethernet port as well as be able to download additional content. The Sony BDP-S550 will also have a 1GB storage facility.

So why is the BDPS550 worth the wait? Aside from the Ethernet port, this player is also capable of 1080/60p resolution and 24p true cinema output. This translates to superior video playback quality especially on 40 inches and larger flat panel televisions.

You are going to have to wait though because the Sony BDP-S550 isn't going to be on general sale in the UK until much later in 2008.
